The Tillamook County Library invites community members of all ages to participate in Summer Reading 2026, “Plant a Seed, Read!” beginning June 15 and continuing through July 31.
This year’s program celebrates the connection between growth, learning, and literacy. Readers of all ages are encouraged to cultivate a love of reading while enjoying free library programs, activities, prizes, and special events throughout Tillamook County.
The Summer Reading Program is designed to help children maintain and strengthen reading skills during the summer months while providing engaging opportunities for teens and adults to discover new books, connect with their community, and explore lifelong learning. Participants can join the Summer Reading Challenge, track their reading, attend library events, and earn prizes along the way.
There are game prizes for every age group including books for kids and teens. The youngest participants will also get opportunities to select prizes from a treasure chest with fun and engaging toys. Older kids will be able to win blind boxes which have mystery prizes including gift certificates from community and business partners throughout the entire County and a chance to win a fun grand prize! All kids who complete the game will get a Summer Reading T-shirt.
Teen readers will get to choose between different gift certificate prizes from community and business partners. Teens that complete their game will be entered to win a pair of admissions to the Tillamook County Fair with ride bracelets. Adults will get a locally made, artisan bookmark for completing their reading game and entered in to win one of multiple prizes including a gift certificate for a night out dining or a Twin Ranch Rail Riders package for family fun.
“Summer reading helps keep minds active, sparks imagination, and brings our community together through reading and learning,” said Library Director Don Allgeier “Whether you’re reading your favorite author, discovering a new genre, or sharing books with family, every page is a seed planted for our future.”
Programs will be offered across Tillamook County Library locations and include activities for children, teens, adults, and families. Participants can expect crafts, performances, educational programs, reading incentives, and community celebrations throughout the summer. The library will also host summer lunches for kids Monday through Friday at the Tillamook Main Library, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Garibaldi Library, and on Fridays at the Rockaway Beach Library thanks to our partners at Grub Club and Meals for Seniors.
We will celebrate Summer Reading with two big events. The Summer Reading party will take place on August 1st at the Tillamook Main Library. There will be treats, games, and fun for all participants in Summer Reading to enjoy. The Tillamook Coliseum Theater will host a free Summer Reading kids movie on August 15th for Summer Reading participants.
The library’s Summer Reading Program is free and open to everyone. Registration begins June 15 at any Tillamook County Library branch.
