The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordinators have developed reusable signs that will be posted at camps or vehicles that are associated with missing persons during a search and rescue operation.
“The idea is, if the person returns they know to stay put until we return, and for them to call Dispatch if they have service and advise them of their status,” said Deputy Sam Cummings. “The intent is avoid us returning to check on the vehicle or camp only to find it gone or packed up, and then receiving a call hours later after they’ve gotten cell service, or a charge on their phone, and they then call the original reporting person to check in.”
It is our hope that the signs will help reduce confusion and unnecessary SAR deployments.
