TILLAMOOK PUD: Crews Work Through Night to Restore Power During Ice Storm

Posted on January 14, 2024January 14, 2024 by Editor

By Laura Swanson

We knew it was only a matter of time yesterday Saturday January 13. We thought we’d get dinner ready “early” – prepping a pizza and ham bean soup (and baking a loaf of bread, too) heck we might be snowed in for days. Then at 2:30pm, after multiple blinks, out go the lights. Bread and pizza on hold – ham bean soup warmed on the wood stove and an early bedtime for us. At the peak of the storm, over 10,000 people in Tillamook County were without power. The outage in North Tillamook County was due to the Pacific Power transmission line, which we knew meant a longer outage.
Currently, on Sunday, January 14 at 2 pm, as temperatures hover at about 32 degrees, TPUD has about 1,400 without power, mainly because of trees and tree limbs.

Sunday, January 14, 2024 Outage Update @2:30PM
Crews have been working non-stop for two days to restore power to the area. All crews will take a rest break at 10 p.m. tonight (1/14/24) and will resume work tomorrow morning (1/15/24) at 6 a.m.
The following areas will be without power overnight due to extensive damages including multiple broken poles and damaged equipment:
North Tillamook County:
Tideland Road and McKimmens RD areas in Nehalem
Upper portion of Foss Road in Nehalem
South Tillamook County:
Sandlake Road area in Cloverdale
Winema area in Neskowin
Sunbow area in Neskowin
Crews will continue working today to restore as many customers as possible in other areas. Currently, approximately 1,400 customers are without power.
Additional areas could also be without power overnight if additional outages occur, and crews are unable to make repairs and restore service to these areas before 10 p.m. tonight (1/14/24)
