I am excited to be voting for Rachel Armitage, who is running for Oregon State Senate District #16, and I am very happy she is back! She was appointed to that position in 2022 and completed Betsy Johnson’s term, where among many other responsibilities she assisted veterans, rural families, and foster youth. Then, she worked at the Oregon Community Foundation as the North Coast Program Officer. She worked with community leaders in Tillamook, Clatsop, and Columbia counties.
I have talked with Rachel, and her ability to develop strong relationships is one of her many strengths. I know she will care about all people in her district, and she absolutely gets results. For example, when she was previously a state senator, she was able to get funding for important infrastructure in the North Coast.
Because she comes from a working class family, she understands the issues that confront many of us. The cost of food, rent, and utilities are all increasing. Focusing on quality schools, affordable housing, and healthcare, protecting those with preexisting conditions, are all critical. She will fight to get results.
Who is an Oregon state senator is increasingly important. The Trump administration attempted to restrict voting rights including mail-in ballots and the postal services, and fortunately, was stymied by the Supreme Court.
Elections are to be run by the states, not the federal government.
It’s vital to fight against those who are primarily interested in cruelty and retribution and those who would prefer an authoritarian government to a democracy. Vote by mail or put in an official drop box as soon as you can. I prefer the drop box. At the local level, we can make a difference. Our vote can make a difference.
