Following the resignation of Superintendent Misty Wharton last Monday, August 18, 2025, Nestucca’s Board of Directors held a Special Meeting on Tuesday evening, August26th, and voted to appoint Ken Richwine, as the Acting Superintendent.
Richwine has been with Nestucca SD for more than 30 years, initially as a teacher, then as the high school principal for the past several years before being reassigned to the role of District Career Technical Education and Alternative Education Administrator this past school year. He is well known and liked in the community, recognized for his big heart, sense of humor, and kind spirit. He was the NVSD “Educator of the Year” in 2014.
As expected, he was also appointed to be District Clerk, which goes hand-in-hand with being superintendent, as that is the person who signs checks and contracts for the school district. Evaluations will be done in January to determine if he will continue forward as the permanent Superintendent, if he wishes to, and the board approves.
Superintendent Richwine knows Nestucca’s students, staff and the community, and has worked closely with Misty Wharton for a number of years. While he has learning to do to fulfill his new duties, he is very capable and will have a great support system in his fellow administrators and the staff. Congratulations, Superintendent Richwine! The community is here to support you.
