Bay City has always had a special relationship with our veterans. The property on which City Hall and the Library are located was provided through an agreement with our local VFW. Our local VFW branch meets in the Bay City Community Hall each month. We try and recognize our local veterans each year.
This year, Public Works Director Roy Markee had an idea, and when he shared the idea with the Bay City Booster Club, that idea took off.
Large boulders were strategically placed around the parking lot of the newly constructed Welcome Garden Park, located off 3rd Street between Hayes Oyster Drive and B Streets. The boulders came from a City property. John Malcolm (JM Excavating) volunteered to haul and place the boulders as a donation to the project. Local vendor Michael Caputo (ThePromoMaster.com) helped procure over a dozen flags for the project. Public Works employees drilled holes in the boulders and mounted flags on poles. Everything came together by Veterans Day.
On November 11, 2025, at 11:00 am, Mayor Liane Welch welcomed a small but dedicated group of volunteers to the site, where she thanked all those involved and recognized veterans who have served our country and reside in our community. The group of volunteers included local resident Patrick Tempel, a veteran who is also a member of the Booster Club.
We would like to thank all who participated in this project, which came together on Veterans Day, and will serve as a point of pride for our community on various holidays, as a way to honor those who have served our country and community.
Welcome Garden Park is a Bay City Booster Club project, supported by the City of Bay City and a grant from the Bay City TLT Fund, a Tillamook PUD Community Support Grant, and hundreds of hours of volunteer support. It is open to the public, and welcomes residents and visitors to our City throughout the year.
