Contingency Plans for Tillamook Warming Shelter due to COVID-19; Tents, Blankets available at CARE; Pop-Up Warming Camp, Tents Allowed in Parking Lot – Saturday March 14th and Sunday March 15th after 5 pm

Posted on March 13, 2020 by Editor

Message from CARE Executive Director Erin Skaar:
I am sorry to share that due to the COVID-19 outbreak we will be suspending our regular warming center operations for the remainder of the season. The facility we use simply is not set up for us to be able to follow the shelter guidance that has been issued to keep people safe.
In light of the cold temperatures we are expecting this weekend, Saturday and Sunday March 14th and 15th, we are setting up a pop-up warming camp in the CARE parking lot at 2310 First Street in Tillamook. We will have staff available Saturday evening March 14th from 5-7 to issue tents, sleeping bags and extra blankets to those who need them. They will then be able to pitch their tent in the CARE parking lot for the night. The same rules as the warming center will be in place and tents will need to be removed on Sunday morning. They can then be pitched again Sunday evening March 15th after 5pm and will need to be removed by 7am on Monday morning. A port-a-potty is being brought into the CARE parking lot to handle the issues of hygiene, and the City Police have given us their support.

This is an unprecedented time and we are working to care for those without homes as best we can. We appreciate everyone’s support.
Thank you!
