GORDON’S UPDATE: Weather 6/13/23 … Weekend Showers Possible

Posted on June 13, 2023 by Editor

By Gordon McCraw, Meteorologist for the Tillamook County Pioneer

The ridge of high pressure flattened some today as a trough and dry front pushed over the top of the ridge and dropped down through our area, giving us some fog and drizzle this morning, then cooler temperatures and breezy winds this afternoon.

The clouds will increase again tonight with the continued strong onshore flow, so becoming cloudy with northwesterly winds 8-12 gusting to 20 tonight, and patchy fog is possible again late, denser at the beaches, lows tonight near 47.

With the stronger westerly flow continuing tomorrow we see less clearing, winds northwesterly 8-12 gusting to 20, the high near 60, the marine clouds return tomorrow night with the breezy northerly winds 8-12 gusting to 20, but easing after midnight, that patchy fog is possible once again, lows near 47.

The ridge of high pressure to the west builds northeastward into our area Thursday giving us partly sunny skies, the winds becoming northwesterly 5-10, highs warming a little to near 64, then a partly cloudy night, some patchy fog possible in the early morning hours, the low near 48.

Friday an upper level low pressure area up in the Gulf of Alaska moves eastward, flattening the ridge in our area once again, allowing a disturbance to move across just to our north. This brings mostly cloudy skies Friday, the high near 65. Friday night we have a slight chance of showers, the low near 51.

It looks like the low pressure area will be drifting southeastward towards British Columbia over the weekend, and with the ridge to its southwest, we are stuck in a northwesterly flow that will give disturbances a road to follow into our area, bringing us some winds and clouds along with a slight chance of showers Saturday, highs near 61, lows near 46. We see a better chance of showers for Sunday with the low moving into Washington pushing a trough of low pressure through our area. The high temperature by Sunday around 58, the low down near 44.

Monday the low pressure area is starting to move off to the northeast, but still manages to give us a chance of showers, highs near 59, lows near 47.
