Rockaway Beach’s first council meeting of 2025 on Wednesday January 15th brought in the new year with a historical moment. Not since the city’s incorporation in the 1940’s, have all six elected officials been sworn in at the same time.

Mayor Charles McNeilly
Councilor Mary McGinnis
Councilor Tom Martine
Councilor Penny Cheek
Councilor Alesia Franken
Councilor Kiley Konruff

The newly sworn in council jumped right into doing the business of the City. Mayor McNeilly nominated Councilor Cheek for President of the Council. She was appointed unanimously. He then nominated Councilor McGinnis to be the liaison to the Planning Commission. She was appointed unanimously.

The Planning Commission had two seats that needed to be filled, Position 1 and position 7. Applications were submitted. Mayor McNeilly nominated Jason Maxfield to position 1 and Lydia Hess to position 7. The council approved these nominations unanimously.

Coffee with the Mayor and City Manager continues in 2025.They will be adding a Coffee and Tea social, to be held in the vestibule outside the council chamber.
