Application for PUD Community Grant
The Oceanside Volunteer Emergency Readiness Team (OVERT) should hear this week whether the Tillamook PUD Board will approve its application for a Community Development Grant of $3500 to purchase two solar-powered electric storage banks as part of its effort to equip the Emergency Assembly and Assistance Center at the Oceanside Chapel. The Center will serve as the focus for efforts to shelter and assist displaced visitors and locals in the event of a disaster event. The group has already collected local contributions (THANK YOU OCEANSIDERS!) and in-kind donations to replace the propane powered generator and tanks at the Chapel. The power banks will supplement the generator and also serve as a mobile source of power for off-site locations if needed. Netarts-Oceanside Fire Chief Jeff McBrayer endorsed the grant request and has praised OVERT’s efforts to supply the center. OVERT hopes to site a second assistance center in the Camelot-Trillium area and has recently begun mentoring volunteers engaged in a similar effort in Netarts.
