Following an acclaimed debut at the NCRD Performing Arts Center in Nehalem, writer and director Bryan Churchill’s new multimedia play, The Silent Measure, is heading to Cannon Beach and Astoria in August and September
Audience response following the Nehalem premiere has been overwhelmingly resonant. “The biggest takeaway has been how deeply it’s sticking with people,” says Churchill. “Days after the curtain closed, audience members were still coming up to talk about the dialogue, the acting, and the questions the story leaves behind.”
We are living through a strange moment in our collective history. The tools we’ve built to assist us have quietly learned to anticipate us while silently taking over our lives, turning up the pressure on what it means to be conscious, alive, real, even loved. This play is about what happens when our interactions with technology get pressed to the point where something has to give.
The play centers on Carmen Novak—a scientist studying extinction—and her autonomous AI assistant, IRIS. As the two confront buried grief and the blurring line between human and machine.
Novak is played by North Coast veteran and award-winning actor Cyndi Fisher, opposite local actor Pamela Cromwell as IRIS.Upcoming Performances:
